Alexis Pichot’s ten-year career as an interior decorator plays an essential role in his understanding of space, volume and the way we pass through it. He is fascinated with the poetry of light and its possibilities, and has spent the last few years exploring the technique of light painting.
Light painting is a long-exposure technique that captures the movement of a light source, such as a flaming torch, an electric light or fireworks, through a darkened space. The resulting photograph reveals a series of luminescent footprints.
Alexis Pichot’s various series – Light and Paper, Patrimoine enchanté, Urban… – chart his nocturnal wanderings while questioning our perceptions.
