This exhibition offers an immersion in the universe of the eight photographers presented at the CT Gallery since its debut in December 2014. The dialogue of these works offers an overview of the variety and extent of the contemporary photographic scene: travel, the pursuit of one another, intimate portraits, moments stolen or posed, suspended time between myth and reality…
Beyond their singularities, all these photographers have in common this particular medium, as well as a constantly renewed challenge: to reveal the writing of the light. Framing, opening of the diaphragm, shutter speed, choice of sensitivity are all technical parameters sublimated by the virtuosity of these artists.
All of them succeed in grasping a reality that transcends real perception. Their insatiable curiosity and their taste for one another, reveal us to ourselves. What is photography, if not the idea we make of it? It is up to us to practice this observed observer’s gymnastics.
Photographers are romancers, storytellers who testify and question us. By creating a new look on the world, they explore and collect fragments of its actuality, its torments and its beauty: “Collecting photographs is collecting the world” (Susan Sontag, Sur la Photographie, 1977).
This exhibition brings together works by Steve McCurry, Jonas Bendiksen, Denis Rouvre, Rolf Sachs, Jan Gulfoss, Isabelle & Alexis, Alexis Pichot and Gérard Uféras.
